Symbols of Advent

This week our RE task was about the symbols of advent. We needed to read an article about the symbols of advent then make a copy of a doc and write a sentence explaining each symbol of advent. I had fun learning about the all the symbols of advent. Did you know the reason the wreath is shaped in a circle is because the circle represents eternal life?

Did you learn anything new about the symbols of advent?

Digital Art

Over the past two weeks we have made two pieces of digital artwork. Last week we did digital art based on an artist called Flox. We needed to make a copy of a slideshow and watch a video explaining how to make the artwork step by step and copy the steps. All the images I used were already on the slide that we needed to make a copy of. Doing this art was super easy and fun.

This is my artwork inspired by Flox:

This week we did another digital art this week it was inspired by Andy Warhol. It was the same sort of process to make it, first we needed to make a copy of the slide and then watch a step by step video explaining how to make the art.

This is my artwork inspired by Andy Warhol:

I think I like the way the Flox inspired art turned out better because I like how much different stuff there is on the slide.

Time

Yesterday in maths we started time measurement. Our task was to make a table of things you can do for one minute 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute and five minutes. Then we needed to time ourselves and see how accurate we were with our prediction. We got to choose who went with so me and Bella went together. So Bella and made a doc  and wrote our protections then tested them.

This is me and Bella’s create

What could you do in 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute and five minutes?

Awesome Picture Book

For the past 2 weeks we have been planning a story book for Kakano. The first step to creating our book is choosing the characters and what happens in the story. I decided I will make a story about cats because I love cats. My book is about 2 cats who are sisters, but one sister is a hairless cat and the other one is super fluffy. In my story the hairless cat is mean to the fluffy cat because she is jealous of it, then the hairless cat tries to shave off the other cats hair but their dad stops them and then she gets hair extensions so she won’t be jealous anymore. To plan out our characters we needed to make a character profile.

Here are my character profile

Olympic Day

Today at school we had an Olympic day, all the year 8’s were leading it. Claudia and I were leading tumu one. The first thing we did was go to the hall to see Hamish Kerr speak, Hamish Kerr is a Olympic gold medalist for high jump. He spoke about his childhood and why he decided to start high jumping, he also talked about his coach and the values in the Olympics. Then at the end he answered questions. After he answered lots of questions we went to tumu one and decorated a flag with them. Our country was France so we put the word France on it and everyone drew themselves. Then it was morning tea time. After we ate our morning tea all of tumu 1 met up and we went to our first activity, pickle ball. After pickle ball we went to the backfield to play volleyball, then we went to table tennis in downstairs kaupeka. After table tennis we went out from lunch. After lunch tumu 1 all meet up and we went to ki o rahi, then basketball. Then the day was over, I had such a fun time today and I really licked listening to Hamish Kerr speak.

RE

This week for RE we had to create a fact file about a saint.  It had to include information about why they became a saint and what they are the patron saint of. We could present this information as a poster, I chose to make a poster about St Francis of Assisi. St Francis of Assisi is the Patron saint of the environment, animals, and birds.

If you made a fact file about a saint what saint would you choose to make it about?

Why Netball Should Be In The Olympics

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the Olympics in reading. Our create task this week was to choose a sport that is not in the Olympics and make a slideshow saying why we think it should be in the Olympics and what the sport is. I think netball should be added to the Olympics because lots and lots of people play it and lots of people enjoy watching it. It would also bring more attention to netball for the people who don’t already know about netball.

Here is my create

What sport do you think should be added to the Olympics?

Terrific Olympic Torch

This week for PBL we needed to read about the Olympic pictograms, rings, mascots, medals and the torches. Then we needed to decide what one we wanted to make our create about. I chose to design a torch for if the the Olympics were in New Zealand and add a description. I made my torch look like an L&P bottle, because L&P is only in New Zealand and I love L&P. I learnt that the Tokyo 2020 torch takes inspiration from the cherry-blossom an important tree in Japan. I really enjoyed making this create.

Here is my create

What would you make your Olympic torch look like?

The Ancient Olympics

This week in reading we have been learning about the ancient Olympics because the 2024 Olympics are starting soon. I learnt that in the ancient Olympics they played with no clothes on and put oil and sand on their bodies to protect them from the sun and keep their body temperature the same. You could also only play if you were a male Greek and not married.
This week we needed to read 3 texts about the ancient Olympics and fill out a slideshow about each piece of text we read.

Here it is:

What did you learn from my post? What new knowledge do you have about the ancient Olympics?

Amazing Nature

Recently in RE we have been learning about Laudato Si, Laudato Si is a letter Pope Francis addressed to everyone in the world. The letter basically says that we need to care for the earth, our common home because it is getting destroyed and we are all taking more than our fair share. In the letter he asks us to take responsibility for our actions and start caring for our common home. Our create task this week was to make a poem that captures the beauty and complexity of creation. We had the choice to write any type of poem but I chose to write an acrostic poem.

Here is my poem

I had fun writing this poem because it was nice to think about how beautiful and complex nature is.

What type of poem would you write?
