Wonderful Writing

This week in writing we have been learning about the linnaean classification. The linnaean system is a way to organize living things like animals and plants. There are 5 categories in the linnaean system: kingdoms, phyla, classes, orders, families and genus, species. We needed to research an insect using the linnaean system. I decided to research a honey bee, here is my research:

What insect would you research?

Athletes that have made an impact

Hello. This week in Reading we have been learning about athletes that have made an impact. My Learning Goal was: Make connections between texts and own life experiences, using more sophisticated texts. We read two articles one about Lebron James and one about Micheal Phelps. Then we got to make our reading create I chose to do it about Lebron James, Because of all the amazing things he has done like donating lots of money to charities and giving bikes away to less fortunate people.

Here is My create:

Have you learnt anything new about Lebron James?

Perfect Predictions

Hello

This week in reading we have been learning about predictions.

My Learning Goal was: to make predictions about the text. I learnt that you can make predictions I could use my prior knowledge to make predictions about the book I am going to read.

My create in reading this week was: to make a cheat sheet showing people how to make predictions. Here is my Create. I hope you like it.

What did you learn from my post? What new knowledge do you have about predictions?

PBL

Over the past couple of weeks we have been creating our PBL project. In PBL this term, we have been learning about soil, rocks, water, air, and life forms. I decided to make a 3D model of an island, my island is called pigmonk island it is named after the 2 main animals that live on this island a pig and a monkey. It is always a sunny and warm place on pigmonk island.

The atmosphere on my pigmonk island is made up of approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. There is a long river with freshwater flowing through my island. The types of soil on pigmonk island are sand silt and clay witch is the same as earth’s soil. I have small rocks on my island and they are all sedimentary. On pigmonk island there are 3 lifeforms pigs, monkeys and fish. The pigs and monkeys eat the fish and the fish eat the algae in the water.

Here is my PBL final prodect:

Have you ever made a 3D model of a island before?

Reading Between The Lines

This week in reading our goal was to independently predict, interpret and analyse text, ‘reading between the lines’ to gain a deeper meaning. So we read a story about a girl who got addicted to her phone and her mind started going crazy. While we were reading we started to read between the lines by using clues from the text.

Our create was to create a list including all the pros and cons of phones using quotes from the text.

Click here to see my create: Phone Pros and Cons-MeMe

I had lots of fun making this create it was super interesting reading between the lines.

Have you ever had to read between the lines?

Rocking Reading!

This week in reading we needed to think of any rocks that we may have at home or have seen at some point. Use a website to identify the rock. Then we needed to create a poster with information about 5 different rocks. At the bottom of the poster we had to list 4 questions about rocks. I made my poster about blue rocks, my favourite rock I researched was sapphire because it was really pretty and it is a really nice colour.

I had lots of fun making this create and researching the pretty rocks.

Do you know about any other rocks? If you do what is your favourite?

Wonderful Writing!

This week in reading our create was to create a fake twitter post on why you need to drink water, and it needed to be under 100 words. First I watched a youtube video on why people need to drink water and took notes from that video. With those notes I took a wrote a short couple of sentences about why you need to drink water.

This task was super fun and easy to do but it still took me awhile to create.

Have you ever made a fake twitter post?

Radical Roller Coaster Reading

This week in reading our create was to create a roller coaster digital or on paper. Me and my friend Bella decided to make a roller coaster on paper. We watched a you tube video on how to make one and then printed out some templates and then we started making our roller coaster.

The roller coaster was very challenging to make but we managed to problem solve and finish in time. This was a super fun create to do and the end result was really cool.

This is our roller coaster:

We also needed to think of questions that we would ask a roller coaster maker. These are the questions I would ask:

Have you ever made a roller coaster with paper?
